The weakest demon ever! |
In the anime world of Blue Exorcist, demons run rampant across the Earth. Coal tars are small, airborne demons found in dusty, dirty places. While coal tars are very weak, they can combine into stronger demons, so watch out!
Paper quilling a coal tar is easy! Simply combine the circles, squares, and triangles covered in the previous posts.
What you will need:
-One 44" black strip of paper (I painted computer paper black, cut four 11" strips, then taped them together. This is for the body)
-Two 22" black strips of paper (these are for the ears/horns)
-Ten or more 8" black strips of paper (these are for the smaller, lower body triangles and the tail)
-Four 8" light green strips of paper (these are for the mouth)
-Two 22" multi-color strips of paper for the eyes (I used a light green marker to color in 30% of one piece of computer paper, then a dark green marker to color in 70%. Then I colored in a second sheet of computer paper with light green marker. And then I taped the two sheets together, to make the multi-color strip)
-Toothpick
-Glue
-Background paper (one 8" x 11" sheet of computer paper)
Note: the 8" light green strips and the multi-color strips of paper should be thinner, since they will be on top of the body. Try to make these strips 0.5 cm wide. Also, 8" is 20 cm, 22" is 56 cm, and 44" is 112 cm.
To get started
Watch a YouTube video tutorial, or follow along with the instructions below:
Step 1: Use the toothpick to roll the 44" black strip. Make a very loose coil, then glue to secure it. This is the coal tar's body.
Step 2: Roll the 22" black strip, and make a loose coil. Glue it, then pinch into a triangle. This is the coal tar's ear or horn. Make another one of these. Glue to the body now, or later.
Step 3: Roll the 8" black strip into a loose coil. After gluing it, pinch into a triangle. This is the lower body triangle. Make three more of these, and glue to the body (now or later).
Step 4: Roll the 22" multi-color strip. Make a slightly loose coil, or make it as big as you want the eye to be. Glue the coil, then glue to the body. Make another one of these.
Step 5: Roll the 8" green strip, and make a mostly tight coil. Glue, then pinch into a triangle. Make a second one of these.
Step 6: Roll the 8" green strip into a mostly tight coil. Glue it and pinch into a square. After making a second square, glue both squares together, then glue one triangle to the outer side of each square. This is the coal tar's mouth, and you can now glue it to the body.
Step 7: Roll the 8" black strip into a tight coil. Glue to secure, then pinch into a square. This is a tail piece. You can make and glue each tail piece one at a time, or quill all the pieces and then glue at the end. Make as many or as few pieces as you want, in whatever orientation you like (straight or zigzag).
Step 8: Roll the 8" black strip into a loose coil, then glue it. Pinch into a triangle. This is the triangle end of the tail. Glue this to the rest of the tail pieces. If you haven't glued all the pieces to the background paper, arrange the pieces however you like, then glue everything to the background.
Congratulations! You have now paper quilled a Coal Tar from Blue Exorcist!
Variations
When coal tars become aggressive, their mouths become an evil grin. You can make this grin using one row of alternating triangles(one triangle points up, the next points down, and so on). Or put more triangles in the tail to make it zigzag. And you can always use a black strip of paper longer than 44" to make the body a very solid looking spiral.
With only a few paper quilling shapes, you can make all kinds of designs, ranging from sinister to cute. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks so much for reading, and happy quilling!
