7 Paper Quilling Designs Using Only The Basic Ghost / Letter D

These ghosts are not spooky

Remember Pac Man ghosts, with their round heads and jagged bodies? Well, in paper quilling, the ghost shape is essentially like that. The ghost shape has only 2 points at the bottom. As with any other paper quilling shape, you can orient the ghost shape to form the letter D, or a smiling mouth.

Basic process of quilling a ghost

1. Use a toothpick to roll an entire paper strip
2. Expand to make a loose coil, then glue to secure it
3. Grab the bottom of the circle with both hands, and pinch downward to create an upside down U shape

Note: Tighter coils make smaller ghost shapes, and looser coils make bigger ghost shapes. Looser coils are more difficult to work with and can be bent out of shape.

Ways to use a ghost

Ghost designs:
-Use vibrant colors to create flower petals
-Use white paper to create a toothy grin, or an angry grimace
-Use pink paper to create an open mouth, or bear ears
-Use multiple strips of the same color, or gradient colors, to create more interesting snake or fish scales
-Use long red paper and a loose coil, to make boxing gloves
-Turn the ghost upside down to make eyes
-Turn the ghost on its side, to make the letter D, or blobby arms

Rarely is a ghost shape used by itself. More often, many ghost shapes form a pattern, such as eyes, ears, arms, hands, or fish or snake scales. Whichever way you use it, ghost shapes are great for filling up space. Try adding a ghost to your next paper quilling artwork!
